Action is the first step to getting everything we desire. We must take action in order to get everything we desire. The surest way we can live to our Ultimate Potentials is to take actions that are based on our true desires.
The first step to getting what you want is to think about what it is you desire. Stephen Covey in his book, 7 Habits of Highly Successful People describes the creation process as consisting of two forms: the invisible and the visible. Your thoughts are the first invisible step to taking action. What you think about will materialize into a result.
Action also involves visible steps such as: creating a plan, identifying resources needed to execute the plan and physically taking the necessary steps.
Why is it so often many good intentions fall along the wayside? The reason is simple: we choose to delay taking necessary actions to fulfilling our desires. We learn how to get in our way by telling ourselves stories that make us feel good… only for awhile.
Delay comes in the form of thinking you can’t do something for any myriad of reasons put forward, telling yourself you are good enough where you are at, or rationalizing about the possible negative impacts of taking the required actions. The list is endless when it comes to why we delay taking action.
There are 3 significant ways we delay taking action:
- Focusing on the result as the action rather than the steps necessary to get to the outcome.
- Losing sight of the meaning of the result that is, it’s a goal, a guide
- Looking at the result and missing the important steps necessary for achievement
One thing is certain and that is to know you have truly taken action to create the desired results. This you will know when you can check off the following actionable items:
- Thinking, meditating, reflecting
- Doing research/gathering information
- Reading up on the topic
- Talking, coaching, mentoring
- Writing out steps needed to get the result,
- Implementing each step identified and assessing the outcome along the way
All of the above steps create movement and movement is action.
A Life Coach is a great resource to use to help you create a life plan. A Coach will work with you to provide tangible results and support you in transferring these results in all other aspects of your life. A coach will support you to be accountable to your self-development goals, as well as stop to celebrate your achievements along the way.
Keep Well… Phyllis
