Be a Star Be a Winner with Canola Oil

It is about striving to be the best in the world. Canola growers know it. So do athletes competing for gold at Vancouver 2010 Olympics this winter and they understand the passion of being part of a winning team. MCGA along with Alberta Canola Development Commission (ACPC) are working together with Canadian Paralympics Committee on a gold medal program.
The Be a Star, Be a Winner with Canola Oil program involves a recipe contest and school presentations. The recipe contest is to reach out to the community and connect people to their food, health, exercise, family and traditions. The contest not only involves submitting a recipe but also a story that help to link all the pieces together. The recipe has to contain canola oil. The winning recipe will be featured in a future edition of Canola Digest and on the ACPC and MCGA websites.
Along with a contest, a school program presented by Viterra with ACPC and Manitoba Canola Growers are designed to educate students in Grade 1-6 in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta about the connection between nutrition and physical activity and health and well being with canola oil being an important piece. The Power of the Prairies, Outstanding in the Field program is a multi dimension program reaching out to athletes, consumers and school age children over the next year.
Canola oil is certainly good for athletes. But you don’t have to be an Olympian to enjoy the benefits of canola oil in your regular diet. The winning combination of canola oil – being low in saturated fat, trans fat free, high in monounsaturated fat and omega 3 makes canola oil an ideal staple for all households.
Go to www.mcgacanola.org for more information on the recipe contest. The deadline is December 11, 2009.
