Sports Day in Canada

You chance to try something new!

Ever wanted to try out a sport or activity but not sure if you want to sign up for the full session?  Well, have I got an opportunity for you!

September 17 is officially Sports Day in Canada but since Canada has so many great sports and activites it has been turned into a week long celebration from Sept 10-17. 

Here’s a schedule to keep you busy all week long in Winnipeg (most events from Winnipeg In Motion’s fabulous site).  Live somewhere else? No worries, check out CBC’s Sports Day In Canada site to find your city and plan out your week. Now you  have no excuse but to get out and be active!

Sat - Salutation Nation 2011, is an opportunity to do yoga with the entire Nation.  A complimentary yoga class that is open to all ages and all levels.  The Winnipeg location is St. Vital Park and class begins at 9am. See you there!!
Sun- Visit Maples Arena for a chance to skate with a stick, no not a hockey a ringette stick! From 10:30 – 12:30 you can Try Ringette.
Mon- Starting today until Friday the U of M has opened its doors for you to try out activites for FREE all week long.  Check out the schedule here. You can try out anything from yoga, ballroom dancing, Judo, Zumba, belly dancing, boothcamp,  boxing, Kung Fu and seems almost anything in between.  Seriously, how can you not find something you want to try!
Tues- Why not try Synchronized Swimming at the Pan Am Pool where you can take part in a no experience required class from 6:30-7:30 for ages 4 and up. 
Wed- Pleanty to choose from at the U of M.  Check out the schedule!
Thurs- If you missed Synchronized Swimming on Tues you can check it out today for a repeat class!
Fri- Join the Running Room and Winnipeg in Motion at the Millenium Library for Running is FUN where you can learn how to start running.  Then, start running!
Sat-  Join Mantioba Organization of Disc Sports for Try Ultimate Frisbee, or you can Try Raquette Ball or if you missed Ringette last weekend you can Try Ringette.

The above activities are just a sample of what is happening for one week in September.  There are complimentary sports and activities happening all over all of the time.  If you are trying to be active on a budget you just need to do a little online research, stay connected and you will be making new friends, trying new things and getting healthy all at the same time while spending very little or no $$.
